The National City Chamber Foundation is accepting applications for their ‘I’m Ready’ comprehensive career training program through Dec. 15.
National City Chamber of Commerce Marketing Coordinator Gabrielle Rodriguez said the 10-week long course was created especially for unemployed or underemployed National City, Chula Vista and Logan Heights residents ages 18-24.
“Program participants will leave with Leadership Academy training, a newly updated resume, work experience in a company that matches their career interests and life skills,” Rodriguez said, as well as learn how to develop a personal financial plan.
Participants chosen from the applicant pool will initially meet for orientation on Dec. 17.
The group will then meet Tuesdays and Thursday evenings beginning on Jan. 5, 2021 for six weeks to receive career and life readiness training in leadership development, financial planning and workforce skills.
Following the six-week training period, participants are slated for an internship at a local company so they gain work experience in a career that matches their personal interests.
Participants will graduate from the program on March 19, 2021 in a virtual ceremony.
Rodriguez said the program was designed to develop a future workforce based out of South San Diego county and was created in a partnership with the Live Well San Diego South Region Leadership Team, Logan Heights Community Development Corporation, Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego, Junior Achievement, South Bay Community Services, Institute for Public Strategies, and South County Economic Development Council.
Additional program support is provided by the Small Business Development Center, RISE San Diego, San Diego Council on Literacy and the county of San Diego Department of Health and Human Services.
