March is a month of celebration in Downtown Chula Vista! As we savor the culinary diversity along Third Avenue during the annual Taste of Third, we also honor Women’s History Month. This vibrant community is home to countless inspiring female entrepreneurs whose hard work and passion helped shape the unique character of this South Bay neighborhood.

Women-Owned  Businesses
Anne Nungaray has been the CEO of Shear Envy, an award-winning salon in Downtown Chula Vista, since 2013. Leading a talented team of hairstylists, Anne fosters a space where everyone feels valued. She is also a certified yoga instructor and aspiring organizational psychologist, dedicated to empowering others.

Sarah Iapala is a passionate Latina entrepreneur and the proud owner of Hidden Beauty Salon and co-owner of Dame Mas Cafeina, both beloved gems in the community. At Hidden Beauty, she creates a welcoming space that celebrates authenticity and inclusivity, offering personalized hair and spa services that leave clients feeling radiant and refreshed. Just steps away, Dame Mas Cafeina, which she runs alongside her husband Ramsey, invites guests to savor delicious drinks and freshly baked treats, turning every visit into a moment of self-care and comfort. This Women’s History Month, Sarah’s dedication to uplifting others through beauty and hospitality shines as a true testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and cultural pride.

Inspired by an art space she visited in the Bay Area, Kathryn Ortega opened her studio, Craft on Third, to provide a welcoming environment where people of all skill levels and ages can craft, connect, and explore their artistic side. As a Latina business owner and Chula Vista native, she has created more than just a studio—she has built a space where families, friends, and individuals can gather to express themselves and get creative.

Pauline Marquez, owner of Galu Cafe, is committed to creating fresh, organic dishes from scratch. She brings a range of delicious, locally-sourced options to the South Bay, including sandwiches, pastries, and beverages. Pauline’s vision has made Galu Cafe a beloved Third Avenue spot known for its warm atmosphere and wholesome meals.

Monica Park, the owner of The Spoon House, is a standout in Chula Vista’s Korean food scene. As the cook, bartender, and host, she creates a welcoming atmosphere and serves flavorful dishes like Sundubu Jjigae and Galbi Plate, making it a must-visit local staple.

Loree and Daniell Shirazi, the mother-daughter duo behind Paw Pleasers, founded San Diego’s premier pet bakery in 1992. They bake fresh, healthy treats for pets daily, from cakes to cookies and ice cream. Their passion for pets and baking shines through in every personalized treat and interaction with customers.

Priscilla Curiel’s culinary journey began in her family’s restaurant, Talavera Azul. After training at the Art Institute of San Diego, she opened Mujer Divina Coffee Shop and Tuétano Taqueria (Michelin recognized), where she combines her love for food and expertise, offering comforting coffee and birria tacos that feel like home.
Casey Vu, owner of Teriyaki Grill, blends healthy Asian cuisine with zesty Latin flavors in Chula Vista. This fast-casual spot uses fresh, balanced ingredients, offering a delicious meal for those on the go in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Snooky Rico, owner and president of Rico’s On 3rd, has dedicated over 43 years to the beauty industry. After battling breast cancer, Snooky founded the nonprofit “Loving You Through It” to provide free beauty services and support to cancer patients, empowering them throughout their journey.
El Primero Hotel is a historic Chula Vista landmark that has been lovingly restored by the Roque family. After the passing of her father, Karen Roque and her family continue to honor his legacy by preserving this 1930s gem, representing both their family history and the community’s enduring character.

Daisy Romero’s upbringing between Mexico and California ignited her passion for Mexican culture and craftsmanship. In 2008, she launched El Cholo’s Kid to showcase bags that blend traditional Mexican artistry with a modern edge. Recently, she expanded her vision by opening a storefront on Third Avenue, offering unique artisan bags that celebrate heritage and cater to today’s fashion-forward customer.
