Now that the leaves are changing colors and the air is getting chillier, it could only mean one thing; fall is here! Downtown Chula Vista can’t wait for the new season because it means that we are just weeks away from one of the most beloved cultural events of the year. The Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration is back for its fourth year, welcoming family, friends and the community to join together to celebrate this significant cultural tradition.
Taking place on Saturday, November 2, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the South Bay neighborhood will prepare to come alive with vibrant colors, music and culture at this annual celebration. Hosted by the Downtown Chula Vista Association (DCVA), the community is invited to gather for an afternoon of festivities that honor and celebrate the memory of loved ones who have passed. This free event promises to be a feast for the senses, offering something for people of all ages to enjoy.
A Bit of History
Rooted in the ancient Aztec rituals and the Spanish All Souls’ Day, Día de los Muertos has evolved into a beautiful, heartfelt tradition. It is a time when families come together to remember and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones. Every element of this celebration reflects the cultural depths and symbolism of this age-old tradition, from the intricate decorations to the lively performances. The DCVA is committed to honoring the true essence of Día de los Muertos, ensuring that this treasured tradition continues to thrive in the heart of the community.
