On March 5 Chula Vista voters will choose among a crowded field of city council candidates running for districts three and four. The Star-News will publish Q and A’s with candidates in the weeks leading up to election day.

What is your background? Why are you running for Chula Vista City Council?

Daniel Rice-Vasquez

I am a long-time resident of D-3 Chula Vista. A family man, a married for 37 years, a 101-year-old mother-in-law who has lived with me for 34 years and raised my son and daughter in Chula Vista D-3 both graduating from Otay Ranch High School. A proud father – son graduated UCSD and daughter who is a San Diego County Sheriff Deputy Officer.
I am an U.S. Marine Corps Veteran with a BSBA and an MBA in International Business from University of San Francisco.

I bring a progressive business management career of over 30 years and served in community leadership roles with non-profit organizations to support the homeless, military and veterans and their families, and the under served with food insecurities.
Voice of the community – do not want Chula Vista to become today’s San Francisco!
Support public safety law enforcement coupled with finding best solutions to the migrating and growing homelessness encampments in Chula Vista.

With over 30 years of successful international business leadership managing multi-million-dollar budgets I want to ensure responsible use of tax dollars, prioritizing well-planned community programs and well-executed sustainable solutions.
We need to nurture our city with affordable homes, safe parks and schools, and ethical leadership.

What are your top three priorities as a council member and why?

Public safety law enforcement – why? Voice of our community.
Finding the best solutions to growing homelessness and encampments – why? Voice of our community.

Responsible use of tax dollars and nurture our city with ethical leadership – why? Voice of our community.

What makes you the better candidate for City Council and why?

In the voice of our neighbors a refreshing, new civic minded long-time resident, of ethical, honest, and transparent successful business and community leadership.
