Bubble Tea Chain Happy Lemon Opening in Chula Vista

Global bubble tea retailer Happy Lemon has made its way to Chula Vista. The franchise, founded in Shanghai, China in 2006, has more than 650 stores worldwide, with only one other location in San Diego.

Happy Lemon is also the first bubble tea chain floated on the stock market exchange, according to its website.

The new location is set to open Fall 2019 and will be located next door to Denny’s in The Marketplace at Windingwalk on Birch Road. Happy Lemon will replace Bubba’s Smokehouse BBQ, which has another location in La Jolla.

The first location in San Diego opened on Convoy Street in July 2018, and is the largest Happy Lemon location worldwide. The Kearny Mesa location also offers mojitos, made with fresh mint and Eureka lemons.

However, the bubble tea chain is most famous for its salted cheese series that can be added on top of any drink. While it may sound strange to drink cheese with your tea, the topping is gaining popularity in the U.S., according to The Mercury News. The “cheese” is a sweet foam made of cream cheese, whipped cream, milk and rock salt, with a similar taste to toffee or salty cheesecake.

Customers can also customize their drinks by choosing the ice level and sugar level.
