The Star-News sports editor Phillip Brents was recognized by the San Diego High School Sports Association at their 30th annual all star recognition dinner Monday night for his work covering high school sports.
Brents, 59, started his career covering high school sports at The Star-News in 1987 as a freelance writer. He soon became a staff writer and in 1991 was named sports editor.
“It’s been a crazy, wild 31 years of reporting. But the real superstars are the athletes and the coaches I’ve been privileged to know and watch do their magic on the playing court. There’s always another story, and every story is important, even if it only has deep meaning to one person,” Brents said.
