The Bonita Valley Girls USA Softball program has qualified seven teams to compete in the upcoming Southern California state championship tournament in Lancaster, including six South San Diego District champions.
The local league will be fielding teams in the B and C class tournaments.
At the C tournament level, the top four place-finishers at the district tournament qualify to compete at the state tournament. The top eight place-finishers at the state tournament qualify to compete at the regional tournament.
The district championship tournament took place June 21 in Santee.
Three Bonita Valley teams qualified to advance to the C state tournament: 12U Bronze Phillips, 10U Bronze Baca and 12U Copper Aquino.
10U Baca and 12U Bronze Phillips both won C district championships.
The three C-level teams will be in action this weekend in Lancaster. The state tournament is slated Friday, June 28, through Sunday, June 30.
Chula Vista will serve as the host site for the Region 10 tournament July 12-14 as part of the California State Games.
Four Bonita Valley teams won B district championships: 8U Gold Baca, 10U Gold Diego-Superales, 12U Gold Acosta and 14U Gold Estrada.
All four B district champions will be competing at the state tournament July 5-7 in Lancaster.
There is much to play for. The top eight place-finishers in each of the B state tournaments advance to the B national tournament.
The 10U national tournament is scheduled to take place in Camarillo, the 12U national tournament is scheduled to take place in Medford, Ore., and the 14U national tournament is scheduled to take place in Redding.
The 12U Bronze Phillips team finished 6-1 at the district tournament with 87 runs scored and 16 allowed.
The 10U Bronze Baca team finished 5-0 at the district tournament with 43 runs scored and five allowed.
The 14U Gold Estrada, 12U Gold Acosta, 10U Gold Diego-Superales and 8U Gold Baca teams all finished 4-0 at the district tournament.
The 14U Gold district champions outscored opponents 47-8 while the 12U Gold district champions outscored opponents 44-7.
The 10U Gold district champions outscored opponents 39-6 while the 8U Gold district champions outscored opponents 29-1.
