It all began with a girl and a dream for her music to spread around the world.
Olivia Bonilla, 18, has been non-stop busy this year with traveling, singing and songwriting.
The 2009 Bonita Vista High School graduate grew up listening to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Diamond, but she discovered on her own that pop music rock was her calling. Her single “Not This Time” is being distributed through major online music stores such as iTunes and Amazon.
“I was 5 years old when I first watched the movie “Selena” and I remember telling my dad afterwards, ‘Daddy, I want to be a singer,’ of course at that age, I wasn’t taken very seriously,” said Bonilla, “But when I was 10, I joined my church choir and I learned that I really enjoyed performing in front of others. By the age of 14, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in music professionally.”
The Bonita resident has received the opportunity to go to the Latin Billboard Conference and Awards in Puerto Rico, she sang at the 2010 Carnival Carolina in North Carolina, and she has been to Mexico City where she did a promotional media tour.
Most recently she continued her publicity tour in Spain where she performed a concert and met with television shows and newspapers.
“It’s been kind of a whirlwind, but I’m so excited to get my music career started and having the chance to travel to other places to present my music,” added Bonilla, “I’d love to travel everywhere I can, from Europe to Asia, Australia to South America. I’m a dreamer, but I think with persistence and hard work, anything can happen.”
This upcoming year Bonilla has a media tour on the East Coast to look forward to as well as a continuation for her promotional media tour in Mexico. She will also continue working on the finishing touches of her first full-length album that will be out sometime early next year.
