The Bonita Vista Barons and Chula Vista Spartans finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the eight-team 41st Bonita Optimist-Lady Barons Holiday Basketball Tournament held Dec. 27-30 at Bonita Vista High School.
The Alhambra (Ariz.) Lions defeated Helix, 63-38, to win the BVHS tourney in final round play on Dec. 30.
Bonita Vista finished sixth following its 54-42 loss to Scripps Ranch while Chula Vista downed Crawford, 55-14, to place seventh.
Sierra Thomas (14 points), Tiana Houston (11 points), Anessa Wolfblack (11 points) and Kassandra Mazon (10 points) all scored in double digits for Chula Vista.
Janelle Hudson scored 14 points and teammate Nadia Cruz scored 10 points to lead the Barons in their loss to the Falcons.
Both Bonita Vista and Chula Vista finished 1-3 in tournament play.
Hudson represented Bonita Vista on the all-tournament team while Houston represented Chula Vista on the all-tournament team.
In the third-place game, University City topped Morse 54-39.
Alhambra, braced by all-tournament selections Daesha Jackson and Blanca Perez, completed tournament play 4-0 while Helix finished 3-1 — a figure matched by University City. Morse and Scripps Ranch both finished 2-2 in the tourney.
Kristina Scott, who had 11 points in the championship game, earned all-tourney honors for Helix. Other members of the 2010 all-tournament team included University City’s Jillian Drogin, Morse’s Janae Wellington,, Scripps Ranch’s Mia Montanile and Crawford’s Bailey Galloway.
