Tell us about your professional and political experience and why you are running for District 1 County Supervisor.
I come from a diverse background in community advocacy, education, and energy consulting. My experience spans working with underserved populations, providing education in early childhood settings, and advocating for energy access. I am running for County Supervisor because I believe District 1 deserves a representative who listens, understands local issues, and works for practical, inclusive solutions. My goal is to bring fresh perspectives to the Board and represent all residents—regardless of political affiliation—by focusing on solutions that benefit the community.
What are your top three priorities as county supervisor and why?
Affordable housing and homelessness: The interconnectedness of the housing crisis and homelessness demands urgent, sustainable solutions. We need policies that prioritize building affordable housing, support mental health services, and provide resources to those experiencing homelessness.
Environmental responsibility: I will prioritize policies that address environmental issues such as the Tijuana sewage crisis and ensure sustainable water management to protect our local environment and residents’ health.
Equitable access to services: Whether healthcare, education, or legal protections, every resident in District 1 deserves access to essential services. I will advocate for policies that ensure inclusivity, especially for vulnerable communities.
What do you believe are the most important issues in District 1 and what ideas do you have to solve these issues?
The most pressing issues in District 1 include affordable housing, homelessness, and environmental concerns, particularly regarding the Tijuana sewage crisis. I propose expanding affordable housing initiatives, increasing mental health support for homeless populations, and partnering with federal and state agencies to address cross-border environmental issues.
Additionally, I want to ensure better access to healthcare, education, and job opportunities, especially in underserved areas.
What would you do to stop the Tijuana River sewage crisis and how does your experience help you in your goals?
I will push for stronger collaboration with federal and Mexican authorities to address the root causes of the sewage crisis and support investments in long-term infrastructure solutions. My background in community advocacy and environmental policy gives me the insight needed to navigate complex systems and collaborate with stakeholders to protect the health and well-being of our residents.
How do you feel about San Diego County being a “Super Sanctuary” county and why? Would you try to change its status while still keeping with state laws?
I support policies that prioritize human dignity and safety for all residents, regardless of immigration status. However, any efforts to change the county’s status would need to be balanced with state and federal laws. My approach would be to focus on ensuring that all residents have access to essential services and are protected from harm while working within the legal framework.
Yes, I believe it’s important to have a diverse representation on the Board of Supervisors to ensure that all voices are heard, especially those who feel overlooked or underserved. A change in political advantage could encourage more balanced decision-making and policy outcomes that better reflect the needs of our communities.
How do you believe the current BOS is dealing with the county’s homeless population and what would you want to see implemented to help the homeless?
While there have been efforts to address homelessness, I believe we can do more by increasing investments in supportive housing, mental health services, and addiction recovery programs. I would also focus on preventing homelessness by working to address systemic issues like job insecurity, affordable housing, and health disparities.
How do you believe the current BOS is doing with affordable housing and what proposals do you have to meet state standards and build home ownership and affordable housing?
The current Board has made some strides, but more work is needed. We must streamline zoning laws, incentivize the construction of affordable housing, and create opportunities for home ownership through programs that support first-time buyers and lower-income families. Additionally, we need to tackle the root causes of housing instability, such as rising rents, by supporting local rent control measures.
Anything we have not discussed that you would like to add?
I would like to emphasize my commitment to being a representative for all District 1 residents. My approach is about collaboration, inclusivity, and practical solutions that prioritize the needs of our community. I believe that together, we can make District 1 a thriving, equitable, and sustainable place for everyone.
