South County leaders, business organizations and community activists came together Wednesday night to honor some of South County’s best.
The second annual The Star-News Best of South County’s 2016 Reader’s Poll Red Carpet event took place at the Seven Mile Casino on Bay Boulevard to recognize the best South County has to offer in business, shopping and recreation.
“We realize the importance that small businesses have in our community and we’ve done the readership poll for years, but [last year] we wanted to add something extra to celebrate our winners,” said John Moreno, publisher of The Star-News. “And to really honor the businesses in our community that are successful … and are working hard for our community, we’ve added this red carpet party just as a way to celebrate our winners in style.”
Best of South County winners are determined by the voting of The Star-News readers. Balloting took place online or by mail from September through November for readers to vote on various categories throughout South County from National City to Chula Vista, from Bonita to Eastlake.
Top vote getters in each category received the Gold Star honor while second place winners got the Silver Star award.
Winners will receive a framed certificate.
