The National City Police Department sent out a public advisory urging the community to be aware of suspicious activity that occured on July 17. Both the NCPD and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department have received reports of suspicious behavior on multiple occasions, according to the department.
“It’s being reported that several males approach a female in a commercial business parking lot,” the advisory stated. “The males make the female feel uncomfortable by standing close to them. During this exchange, two males will drive up to the parking lot to confront the males, who immediately flee the area. The two males will leave shortly after.”
Confirmation of this activity hit Twitter, with users sharing their own stories of being confronted in parking lots in both National City and Chula Vista during the early part of this month by groups of men.
“Last night my aunt was shopping @ ross in national city and 5 men were surrounding her trying to kidnap her in the parking lot,” tweeted @italiabeltran. “She started screaming and people started to surround the men and they left running.” The Twitter user encouraged caution and for community members not to shop alone.
In its public advisory, the NCPD also encouraged the community to practice situational awareness, be mindful of surroundings, notice other people and objects, identify entry and exit points and beware of electronic distractions. Call 911 in case of emergency.
The NCPD is investigating this activity. If you have any similar incidents, call the National City Police Department at (619) 336-4411.
