A man accused of repeatedly stabbing another man outside a National City bar on March 10 will face a judge at his May 8 preliminary hearing.
Michael Raymond Acosta, 26, is accused of assault with a deadly weapon upon Ricardo Quezada, 27, of Chula Vista, in the 1 a.m. incident outside Stoney’s at 108 W. 25th St., according to court records.
The victim was taken to a hospital and had surgery. He is recovering following repeated stab wounds to his abdomen and arm. A prosecutor said Monday an attempted murder charge may be filed, depending on testimony in the preliminary hearing, and he declined further comment.
Acosta is also charged with felony battery and with destroying evidence in the same case. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in Chula Vista Superior Court.
Acosta fled the area, but members of the regional gang task force and National City police officers found him on March 13 at a home on Clairemont Avenue and arrested him. Acosta remains at the George Bailey Detention Facility on $80,000 bail.
