The Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles won their season opener versus Monarcas Morelia at Estadio Caliente Friday night.
It was the team’s first home victory since the end of the 2016 spring season.
The Xolos underwent a robust transfer period, bringing aboard eight new players and saying goodbye to longtime veteran and fan favorite Javier Gandolfi.
Nevertheless both goals were scored by Xolos stalwart Dayro Moreno as the team got off to a string start.
“It was a group effort. It was a very solid team, a united team,” said Valenzuela, who was picked as team captain for this match. “We all gave it a great effort, we all ran and gave it all. We are building a good team a good working group. Even if Dayro (Moreno) scored the goals, it all about working as a team.”
The Xolos next play Tuesday at Caliente in the Copa MX-Apertura tournament.
