Job fair of first resort

Southwestern College library site of Gaylord hiring spree

The San Diego Workforce Partnership will co-host a series of free, day-long career fairs in March with Gaylord Hotels and Southwestern College to provide immediate employment opportunities for job seekers in South County. Over two weekends in March, the three organizations are seeking to fill 800 positions at Marriott’s new Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center in Chula Vista.

Set to open in spring of 2025, the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center will have 1,600 guest rooms and suites, as well as more than 477,000 square feet of function and convention space, including the California Ballroom and Exhibit Hall a 140,000 sq. ft. flex hall. The hotel also offers 135,000 sq. ft. of outdoor event lawns and a 4.25-acre water park.

“The City of Chula Vista is excited for the upcoming opening of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center. Even more exciting are all the new employment opportunities for our community and local economy,” said Chula Vista City Manager Maria Kachadoorian in a press release. “In partnership with Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, Southwestern College and Workforce Partnership, we encourage job seekers to attend the hiring fair and connect with a leading employer in our city.”

The career fairs will be held on March 7, 8, 14, 15, and 16 and will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Southwestern College’s Library, offering a great opportunity for job seekers to connect with hiring managers. Positions to be filled include jobs in guest services, hotel operations, one of the resort’s 12 restaurants and bars, among many others.

SDWP President and CEO Rachel Bereza said the Workforce Partnership’s vision is that every business in the region has access to a skilled workforce and every job seeker has access to meaningful employment.

“By bringing together local talent with the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, we’re not just filling positions; we’re creating pathways to prosperity while strengthening our community and helping grow Chula Vista’s vibrant economy,” she said.

Gaylord Pacific Director of Human Resources said at Gaylord Hotels, joining their team means more than starting a job.

“It is about forming long-term, authentic connections and building a meaningful career. This collaboration with the SDWP and Southwestern College highlights our commitment to fostering local talent and creating a world-class culture of collaboration and respect right here in Chula Vista.

Southwestern College Superintendent & President Mark Sanchez said as the only public institution of higher education in South County, the college continues to play a pivotal role in providing economic and educational opportunities that change the lives of individuals and communities.

“We are proud to partner with Gaylord to ensure that this transformative project benefits our residents by ensuring they have access to the thousands of new jobs being created,” he said.

Interested individuals are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume and be prepared for onsite interviews. San Diego Workforce Partnership will also offer assistance and access to the organization’s hiring resources at the free events.
