Times are changing in National City. That’s the message National City Mayor Ron Morrison delivered Monday night during his seventh annual State of the City Address at Cornerstone Church of San Diego.
“I can remember 20 years ago when, once it got dark, families stayed away from Kimball Park,” he said. “I leave my office a lot of times at 10:30, 11 at night and there’s families with small children on the swings with no problems. Things are changing and things are getting better. This year, for infrastructure, the city received $42 million in grants.
Businesses during the recession, such as Mile of Cars, remodeled and built new buildings. “They were going to invest in the future because they realized National City was where it’s at.”
“People have a different expectation of what’s going on in National City today than they did 20, 30 years ago. The expectation is different. People want more things. People want more services,” Morrison said.
“If there’s any one thing that’s changed the most within National City is attitude,” he said.
