The initial 10-year Measure P funding should have been spent on one time expenditures, not ongoing maintenance issues. As an inaugural and long-time member of the Measure P Citizen’s Oversight Committee, I have long spoken on the need to have a comprehensive plan in place when this 10-year tax expires. The answer is not yet another new tax. Unfortunately, no one took this request seriously, instead spending like drunken sailors on leave.
Now that it’s set to expire in several short years, the only solution anyone could come up with is 10 more years of taxes! Sad, yet not surprising. Much like all of us must do, it’s past time the city tightens its belt and lives within its means.
