The Sweetwater Authority Governing board awarded Chula Vista student David Inchaurregui Jr. a $1,000 Work for Water Scholarship at a November Governing Board meeting.
Inchaurregui Jr. attends the Center for Water Studies at Cuyamaca College pursuing a career as a water treatment plant operator or laboratory technician. He is also the current Water Works Association Student Champer at Cuyamaca College. This is the second year Inchaurregui Jr. has received this scholarship.
“It’s an honor to be selected as recipient of this scholarship,” said Inchaurregui Jr. to the Board as he received his award. “I wanted to let you know how amazing it is to be receiving this scholarship. It helps me immensely – it helps pay for my tuition, helps pay for books, helps pay for anything else I need for school.”
The Authority’s Governing Board created the Work for Water Scholarship last year with the goal of supporting students who live in the community. With a significant wave of retirements anticipated over the next five years, the Board recognized the need to help ensure the next generation of water industry experts is ready for the career opportunities available.
The Authority plans to launch the scholarship in Spring 2024. For more information, visit www.sweetwater.org/scholarship.
