Feeding San Diego hosted a large-scale, drive through free distribution at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre for about Chula Vista 2,000 households on Nov. 21. Held two days before Thanksgiving, families received a frozen turkey along with a holiday food box with staple holiday items as well as fresh produce. The distribution was made possible by event sponsor Albertsons Companies Foundation.
“We are incredibly grateful to be able to provide this food ahead of the holiday. What an appropriate way to celebrate this uniquely American holiday—Thanksgiving—than to give food to neighbors in need,” said Bob Kamensky, interim CEO of Feeding San Diego in a press release. “We give our thanks to our staff, volunteers, donors, and corporate partners, especially the Albertsons Companies Foundation, for making this large effort possible. It’s vital for our organization to provide food assistance to the South Bay community as inflation and the high cost of living continue to have a severe impact.”
Feeding San Diego is a non-profit organization on a mission to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food rescue. Established in 2007, Feeding San Diego rescues surplus food from local and national food donors before it goes to waste and gets it to people facing hunger in San Diego County. It is the only Feeding America partner food bank in the region.
