South County’s largest Earth Day celebration is slated to take place on April 15 at Bayfront Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free, family friendly South Bay Earth Day helps build awareness of practices for wholesome habits of sustainability and people’s impact on the planet, with interactive hands-on activities.
“South Bay Earth Day is an inclusive event that provides a space for all to learn how to live an environmentally-friendly lifestyle that is mutually beneficial for you and Mother Earth. This zero-waste event is packed with over 50 green vendors, a showcase of eco-conscious products, programs, and hands-on green activities geared toward education, conservation, recycling, and sustainability,” in a March 9 press release from the City of Chula Vista. “Curated to both those already living an eco-friendly lifestyle, and for newcomers looking for a starting point to go green, the event includes workshops such as Zero-Waste Living, Food Waste Tips and Tricks, Ask the Recycler, and Electrifying Your Home.”
Other activities include a Fix-it-Clinic, where experts can help diagnose and fix problems with small electronics. The Tie Die Workshop, to repurpose plain, light colored shirts, shorts, socks, sheets. Stop by and pick up a free food waste collection caddy at the Free Food Waste Kitchen Caddy. Replenish the soil health of your yard and garden at the Free Compost Giveaway. See art creations with environmentally safe art exhibits at Artist Alley. Gain knowledge of more than 50 environmentally conscious companies and community partners with Sustainable Vendors. And, food trucks, and a bike corral valet.
