Chis Kryjewski bleeds Castle Park red and black. It’s been so since he was a student at the school and now as a coach at his alma mater.
Kryjewski has coached football, roller hockey, girls volleyball, girls lacrosse and now is the head coach for girls field hockey. He has also started and coached community programs, most notably in girls lacrosse.
Trojan alumnus was recently honored for his efforts by receiving the community coach of the year award from the city of Chula Vista.
“I am so honored to represent Castle Park High School and South Bay Vipers Lacrosse to receive the award of Community Coach of the Year for the City of Chula Vista,” Kryjewski said. “Mr. McCann and I have worked together on many projects. This year Mr. McCann was invited to take the first shot at the goal to open up the game between the Trojans and the Raiders on April 8 for Community Appreciation Night.
“This award should also be honored to all of the coaches, players and community supporters we have had over the years at Castle Park High and with the South Bay Vipers Lacrosse. It takes a village to build a great community with a lot of support and support of a high school program and a club organization. I would like to tip my hat to you and Thank you — all of you.”
The girls field hockey season is continuing this fall. The Metro Conference is divided into three groups: the South Bay League with Castle Park, Chula Vista, Southwest and Olympian high schools, the Mesa League with Eastlake, Otay Ranch, Hilltop and Bonita Vista high schools and an independent league consisting of Mar Vista, Sweetwater and Montgomery high schools.
In games through Oct. 8. Castle Park was 3-8 overall with a 1-2 league record. The Lady Trojans defeated host Southwest, 2-0, on Oct. 3 while coming up short in match-ups against Olympian (4-0 on Sept. 29) and Chula Vista (1-0 on Oct. 6).
Sophomore Xiclali Ramirez leads Castle Park in season scoring with 10 points on three goals and four assists, followed by sophomore Elizabeth Olivarez with three goals for six points.
Olympian leads the South Bay League standings with a 3-0 record (6-8 overall), followed by Chula Vista at 2-1 (5-5 overall), Castle Park at 1-2 (3-8 overall) and Southwest at 0-3 (0-4 overall).
Senior Azra Darcuiel leads Olympian with 30 scoring points (12 goals, six assists) while sennior Grace Beatty ranks second on the team with 27 points (seven goals, 13 assists)
Eastlake leads the Mesa League standings with a 3-0 league record (8-3 overall), followed by Otay Ranch at 1-2 (3-9 overall), Bonita Vista at 1-2 (2-9) and Hilltop at 0-3 (0-6 overall).
Senior Rylee Johnson tops Eastlake with 10 goals and 20 scoring points while sophomore Sabrina Johnson ranks second with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Senior Michelle Baumgarten ranks third on the team with four goals and six assists for 14 points.
The San Diego Section playoffs are scheduled to face off Nov. 5, with play-in games set for Nov. 3.
