The second annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration is coming to the Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista on Sept. 14.
A representative for the Otay Ranch Town Center said that in celebration of Hispanic food and culture the event will feature booths with information from local Hispanic organizations, food vendors and a musical performance by Bulevar Descarga.
The main musical performance, band Bulevar Descarga, live and play music on both sides of the border and have a cross border fusion sound of jazz and Latin music.
According to the National Hispanic Heritage Month website, Hispanic Heritage month goes from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and was enacted into law in 1988 after President ROnald Reagan expanded it to a 30-day period. The first day of Hispanic Heritage Month is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, according to the National Hispanic Heritage Month website.
“We decided to launch the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration last year to honor and recognize the contributions and cultural significance of our Hispanic community here,” General Manager at Otay Ranch Town Center Tim Kilcourse said. “We encourage all our neighbors to come out and join us.”
