The San Diego Section’s 2017 softball playoffs will come to fruition this weekend with divisional championship games at UC San Diego.
The Division V (5 p.m.) and Division I (7:30 p.m.) title games are scheduled Friday, May 26.
This year’s CIF playoffs will culminate with four divisional finals on Saturday, May 27. The Division IV final is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start, followed by the Division III final at 2 p.m., the Division II final at 4:30 p.m. and the Open Division final at 7 p.m.
As of Thursday, two Metro Conference teams — second-seeded Eastlake in Division I and ninth-seeded Castle Park in Division V — were still in contention.
Both teams advanced to Thursday’s double-elimination semifinals in their respective divisions — Eastlake (17-10) against top-seeded Patrick Henry (22-9) and Castle Park (9-15) against top-seeded Classical Academy (14-8).
Mesa League champion Mater Dei Catholic (23-8) advanced as far as Tuesday’s Open Division quarterfinals while South Bay League champion Mar Vista (22-9) advanced as far as Tuesday’s Division IV quarterfinals.
South Bay League runner-up Southwest (19-11) also advanced as far as Tuesday’s Division IV quarterfinals.
Castle Park topped third-seeded Borrego Springs, 7-3, in Tuesday’s elimination game to remain in the challenger bracket.
Eastlake beat sixth-seeded Carlsbad, 6-1, last Saturday to advance.
Eastlake lost, 4-1, in Thursday’s match-up against Patrick Henry that sent the Lady Patriots through to Friday’s division final. Eastlake then engaged Carslbad in the challenger bracket final, coming up short 16-15 to suffer playoff elimination.
Patrick Henry will meet Carlsbad for the Division I title.
Castle Park lost, 8-2, to Classical Academy in Thursday’s challenger bracket semifinal to end its season.
