Customers dining at Luna Grill can help Chula Vistan Nicholas Aguilar get to Junior Adaptive Sports Camp.
Nicholas, 12, is not letting his cerebral palsy stop him from having any fun, that’s why he wants to participate in the 2017 Adaptive Sports recreation camp this summer.
Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that affects body movement and muscle coordination. But like many of the camp participants, he needs some financial help.
Leslie Hermann with the adaptive sports and recreation association said about 80 percent of campers seek financial assistance getting to camp.
That’s where Luna Grill comes in. All 15 Luna Grill locations can help a physically disabled child get to camp.
Luna Grill in Chula Vista is raising money for Aguilar as part of a fundraising campaign through the end of June. When customers dine at the Luna Grill at 2275 Otay Lakes Road they can offer to donate money to Aguilar’s camp fund through a point of sale donation and matching funds.
Aguilar said he wants to participate in the camp so he can enjoy his favorite sport: water skiing
“I love it because I smell the fresh sea breeze while catching the biggest air,” he said. “I enjoy every opportunity to meet other people with the same condition as me.”
The Chula Vista Luna Grill will have Aguilar’s story posted on a wall so customers can read his story and get inspired.
The Junior Adaptive Sports Camp through the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association and sponsored by Junior Seau Foundation was established for people 18 years old and younger with physical disabilities to play sports.
The sports are adapted for the person’s disability.
Aguilar said the camp gives him an opportunity to try new things.
“Thanks to the camp, I love tennis and it encouraged me to become passionate about a sport. This camp is the best thing that really motivates me to try new sports. Everything that they think of, I wouldn’t have thought about myself.”
At the camp, athletes will also work with committed volunteers and sports counselors.
