Chula Vista Police Capt. Gary Wedge said that the second person involved in a July 24 car accident that sent Sweetwater board member John McCann to the hospital is an employee from the Sweetwater Union High School district.
Wedge said the 49-year-old man’s name is being withheld until the department’s investigation into the accident is complete.
The man who was driving a Dodge Charger was taken to Scripps Hospital after having a small laceration to his right arm and complaints of pain, Wedge said.
Wedge said that as part of the investigation McCann’s cell phone was impounded.
McCann was seriously injured in a car accident last Wednesday evening, said Chula Vista Deputy Fire Chief Jim Garcia.
The Chula Vista Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the 500 block of Telegraph Canyon Road and Old Telegraph Canyon at about 4:58 p.m., Garcia said,
Garcia confirmed that when fire officials arrived to the scene, McCann was trapped in a vehicle he was driving, in which a fire rescue team had pried open and removed McCann from his vehicle.
Garcia estimates that McCann was trapped in his vechle for about four minutes and was unresponsive at the time.
“McCann was unconscious at the time he was removed from the vehicle,” Garcia said.
Garcia said there were no injuries to the other party involved in the crash.
McCann was transported to UCSD Hospital where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.
