A former Chula Vista Police officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to drunk driving and to inflicting great bodily injury to a person who was injured in East County.
Jesus Angel Salazar, 32, will be sentenced May 30 and faces a maximum three-year term in jail, although he could get probation, Deputy District Attorney William Watkins said.
Five other charges were dismissed by El Cajon Superior Court Judge John Thompson after Salazar admitted guilt to drunk driving.
Salazar remains free on $100,000 bond. He now lives in Tijuana, according to court records. His attorney declined comment.
Salazar was driving his 2012 Cadillac Escalade eastbound on Interstate 8 at high speed at 8:13 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2012, when he struck the back of a Kia Sorento near the exit of Japatul Valley Road, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.
Three people including two children were injured.
Salazar’s car became disabled in the crash and he fled the scene; one of the dismissed charges claimed he offered $1,000 to two men who caught him and held him for authorities after they declined his offer.
