A former volunteer hockey coach at Bonita Vista High School has 11 more months to go before finishing his jail term for having sex with a teenage girl he supervised.
A judge last month turned down the request of Jose Antonio Carrillo, 50, by his attorney to shorten his two-year sentence to one year. He was given the 730-day county jail term instead of a prison sentence that was sought by a prosecutor.
Carrillo’s tentative release is Jan. 24, 2013, according to the Sheriff’s Department and he remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility without bail. He was ordered to register as a sex offender after his release and will be on five years probation.
Carrillo, of San Diego, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of unlawful oral copulation, unlawful sexual intercourse, and lewd acts with a minor since the victim was 15 and 16 years old at the time, according to court records.
Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Kathleen Lewis imposed the two-year county jail term on Dec. 16, 2011, Carrillo
received credit for already serving 249 days in jail. Judge Lewis fined him $2,014.
Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb said Carrillo was not a paid employee at Bonita Vista High School and only worked as a volunteer coach.
He was arrested by Chula Vista police on July 6, 2011, at a field hockey event.
