Southwestern College Governing Board has approved the design for the new central plant and improvements to DeVore Stadium.
Funded by Proposition R, the central plant will house the main campus’ heating and cooling systems and the field house will include new classrooms and a fitness room.
“One way through these difficult times is education and job creation. These facilities help us meet both needs, building a College for the next generation and creating jobs for our residents,” said Denise Whittaker, Interim Superintendent/President for Southwestern College. “We are grateful to our community for approving the funds for these facilities.”
The 6,000 square-foot central plant will serve 72 buildings on the College’s main campus in Chula Vista, it will lower the College’s energy use and equipment maintenance.
The new DeVore stadium will include a 20,000 square-foot and field house with new weight and team rooms, faculty offices, restrooms, concession stands, and it will receive a new synthetic turf.
Construction will start June 2011 and is expected to take approximately 11 months.
