It’s good to be back, Bonita!

It sure feels good to be back home again along Bonita Road! We would like to thank some of the many people who helped us when we were injured and who worked hard to prepare the berm we have enjoyed for so many years. Thanks to the owners of the Bonita Village Center for hosting us in a prominent location. Thanks to the Michelangelo of Glarfs, Kelly Tracy, who fortified our legs, tails and foundations with state-of-the-art concrete and building materials. Kelly said if we stay away from sprinklers we could live another 75-100 years and enjoy generations of visitors!

Thank you to San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas for supporting the Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grants that funded our repairs and the removal of nearby trees. Much obliged to former Supervisor Greg Cox for negotiating an arrangement with the owner of the shopping center so we could return to the most visible spot in the Sweetwater Valley.

We are grateful to the people who volunteered to remove sawdust and excess dirt from our berm and prepare the ground for our return. They are Dolly, Jayme and Jessica Engen, Liliana Galiano, Rogelio and Syara Platero, Yana and Brady Aldridge, Rope Perry, Daryl Hern, Mr. Cox, Chuck Hamilton, and Kiwanis Ryan Torres, Peter Matz, Al Torres, Randy Bellamy, Walt Reeves, and Bob and Vanessa Chica. Special thanks to Gil Luna for renting and operating a bobcat to move 15 truckloads of dirt.

We appreciate the linguistic skills of our talented 13-year-old spokesperson Syara Platero who was interviewed on NBC in English and Telemundo in Spanish. She did such a great job explaining our story and the community’s feelings for us to viewers in San Diego County and Tijuana. Thank you to the Muller family for all your support over the years and to our old friend Gail Phillips. We are certain our creator, Jerry Gauss, appreciates every single one of you!

Our makeover was a roaring success! Come visit us! We love to give rides to our young friends, and we are forever smiling for photos.

Your good friends, Rumbi and Rangui, the Bonita Glarfs
